NEW YORK – A man who allegedly stole ice cream from a New York City business had an unsuccessful getaway, winding up clinging to the ledge of a building. The alleged thief had to be rescued by members of the New York Police Department.

Anthony Pastore, 30, of Staten Island, is facing charges of petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, WABC reported.

According to police, Pastore took at least eight pints of Häagen-Daz ice cream from a CVS store in Manhattan around 10 a.m. on Tuesday and then stuffed them in a backpack, the television station reported.

Officers chased Pastore for several blocks, WNBC reported. Police chased Pastore to a courtyard, where the man climbed over a fence that led to a long drop to an alley below, the television station reported.

Pastore then got stuck on a small ledge on the side of a building, WCBS reported.

Officers were able to pull Pastore back up into the courtyard, and he was taken into custody, WABC reported.

Police said they recovered the ice cream, which was in Pastore’s backpack, the television station reported.
