Woman, boyfriend arrested for allegedly killing younger sister, 3-week-old baby in California
FRESNO, Calif. – An older sister and her boyfriend were arrested for allegedly killing a new mother and her 3-week-old baby in their Fresno, California, house, officials say.
According to a news release from the Fresno Police Department, on Wednesday, officers arrested Yarelly Solorio-Rivera, 22, and Martin Arroyo-Morales, 26, for allegedly killing Yanelly Solorio-Rivera and her baby daughter, Celine. Both Yarelly and Arroyo-Morales were taken to the Fresno County Jail and were both booked for two counts of murder.
According to KFSN, Yanelly was shot and killed while she was sleeping in her bed holding her daughter, 3-week-old Celine. Celine was also killed.
FPD said that on Sept. 24 just after 7 a.m., officers were called out to a house in the 2500 block of South Fruit Avenue in Fresno for reports of gunshots heard inside a house. When officers arrived at the house, they went inside one of the bedrooms where they found Yanelly and Celine. Emergency personnel arrived to provide medical assistance but both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Chief Balderrama told KFSN that the couple was questioned by detectives and both cracked, ultimately confessing. Chief Balderrama said that Yarelly was allegedly filled with jealousy aimed at her younger sister. Arroyo-Morales is a “validated gang member.”
Investigators also told KFSN that the couple did not show any remorse after they allegedly confessed.
According to KFSN, both Yarelly and Arroyo-Morales’ bail has been set at $2 million. Both are expected in court on Monday for arraignment.
The investigation is ongoing. No further information has been released.
