Joseph and Cassidy Belis were arrested by police in Odessa, Texas, on March 5 after witnesses called police to report the children alone in the car, KMID reported.

Police told the Odessa American that when they arrived at the scene, they found a child in the back seat of the unattended car, with all its windows rolled up. A witness told police she first saw the vehicle at 7 p.m. and called 911 after seeing children inside of it at 8 p.m., the Odessa American reported.

Police went into the Texas Roadhouse restaurant, where they say Joseph and Cassidy Belis were drinking alcohol. Joseph told officers that their kids were initially with them in the restaurant. The couple had then brought the children to the car, left a 7-year-old in charge and told the children to call if help was needed, KMID reported.

According to the police affidavit, police also found marijuana in the center console of the car, “where the children could have (reached) it,” KMID reported.
