Toy Hall of Fame announces inductees
Dig deep into the recesses of your memory. Do you recall some of your favorite toys from your childhood?
Some of them may have just been inducted into The Strong National Museum of Play’s Toy Hall of Fame.
The list of a dozen finalists was whittled down to three with a top, Masters of the Universe and Lite-Bright being the latest toys inducted into the museum.
A top has been spinning around for centuries, with ancient Greek pottery depicting women playing with them 2,000 years ago.
Modern kids play with tops and even use them to learn, as they use calculations to make the best placement and spin it with enough force to knock out their competition, the museum said in its announcement.

Masters of the Universe has the power to be one of the toys inducted into the hall of fame on Thursday.
The entire line — He-Man, Skeletor and She-Ra included — can attribute their popularity to the cross-promotion between the toys, comic books, cartoons and movies.
The show — “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” — ran from 1983 to 1985. The show helped introduce new characters that would show up on toy shelves.
Enjoyment of the show has been passed down to a new generation thanks to the Netflix series that continues the storylines and the toys, which are once again being introduced at Target, Walmart and the like.
Lite-Bright allowed kids to use plastic pegs pushed through black paper into a plastic grid to create works of art using color and light.
While the technology behind the simple toy has changed, it is still popular nearly 50 years after its introduction. It was also used in the show “Stranger Things,” introducing it to the children of those who first played with Lite-Bright.
The National Toy Hall of Fame was established in 1998 and “recognizes toys that have inspired creative play and enjoyed popularity over a sustained period.”
