Indiana woman OK after 2×4 from semi smashes through windshield of SUV
WHITELAND, Ind. – An Indiana woman had a scary encounter Tuesday when a piece of wood fell off a passing tractor-trailer and pierced her windshield, authorities said.
The 2×4 missed Barbara Noble by inches as she drove down a dark, narrow road in Whiteland, WXIN reported.
“It’s like one of the ‘Final Destination’ (movie) type moments,” Michael Pruitt, deputy chief of the Bargersville Fire Department, told the television station.
Noble said she was driving to work when the tractor-trailer, coming from the opposite direction, passed her. That is when the wood flew off the truck and punctured her windshield.
“As soon as that semi was even with me, then it just went, bam,” Noble told WXIN. “The 2×4 shot off his truck and just went through my windshield. I can’t even tell you how loud it was.”
“Next thing you know she was making friends with a 2×4 through her windshield,” Pruitt told the television station.
Noble was shaken up but managed to call the police.
“I just was covered in glass,” Noble told WXIN. “Every square centimeter was covered in glass from the dash to the cargo area.”
According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy stopped the tractor-trailer and observed 2×4 wood pieces in the back of the truck. A crash report states the driver told police he did not load the truck himself and also didn’t know he lost anything from the vehicle.
The driver is not facing any charges, WXIN reported.
“I’m so thankful and blessed that I walked away from it with, you know, very little injury,” Noble told the television station. “It was a miracle, actually.”
