SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah – An infant was in critical condition after Utah police said his mother crashed a minivan into a retention pond at a golf course late Sunday.

The infant was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, KSL reported. His mother, Brittanie Mae Miloshevsky, 28, also received medical attention, although the extent of her injuries was unclear.

Miloshevsky was arrested and charged with criminal mischief, child abuse, child endangerment and DUI with serious bodily injury, according to jail records.

According to the South Salt Lake Police Department, authorities received a call at 11:15 p.m. of a vehicle driving on the course at Golf the Round in South Salt Lake, KSTU reported.

When the police arrived they found a hole in a fence and Miloshevsky standing near a retention pond, the television station reported. The minivan was partially submerged in the retention pond.

According to KSTU, Miloshevsky told officers the infant was still in the vehicle. The officers jumped into the pond and were able to free the boy, who was still strapped into his car seat.

“(The) officers did a heroic thing, it’s very cold in there, the pond is cold,” South Salt Lake police spokesperson Danielle Croyle said. “Went in there multiple times, dove in multiple times. They saved that child.”

Bail for Miloshevsky was set at $100,000, according to jail records.
