Vermont man faces charges in deaths of New Hampshire couple
ST. ALBANS, Vt. – The man initially described as a person of interest has been charged in the shooting deaths of Stephen and Djeswende Reid.
Logan Clegg, who was arrested last week in South Burlington on an unrelated fugitive from justice charge from Utah, has been charged “for knowingly causing the deaths of Stephen and Djeswende Reid by shooting them multiple times on April 18, 2022, in Concord,” the state attorney general’s office said in a news release.
The suspect, 26, waived extradition on Thursday during an online hearing in Vermont Superior Court in St. Albans. According to The Associated Press, authorities in New Hampshire said they were prepared to pick him up immediately.
According to WPTZ, Clegg faces two counts of second-degree murder.
Clegg will be held without bail at the Northwest State Correctional Facility in Vermont until he is picked by New Hampshire authorities within the next 10 days, according to WPTZ.
On April 18, Stephen Reid, 67, and Djeswende Reid, 66, left their Concord apartment complex to go on a walk. According to The AP, their bodies were discovered three days later, and the manner of their deaths was a homicide.
New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella told the AP on Thursday that investigators have no information that suggests anyone else was involved in the deaths.
“Mr. Clegg’s arrest is a significant step in this case, but it’s only one step,” Formella said. “There is a long way to go in this case.”
The family members of Steve and Wendy Reid released a statement on Thursday following the charges.
“The Reid, Pasgo and Forey families are grateful to the diligent efforts of the Concord Police department, the NH Attorney General’s office and the countless other federal, state, county and local law enforcement agencies in New Hampshire, Vermont and Utah, who worked collaboratively in order to identify, locate and arrest the individual responsible for the murders of Wendy and Steve Reid. We would also like to thank the many community members who contributed to the investigation with tips and information, as well as the groups and individuals who contributed to the tip award line,” Lindsay Reid, the couple’s daughter, said in a statement to WMUR on Thursday.
