Cat missing two years reunited with New Jersey family
BURLINGTON COUNTY, N.J. – A cat missing two years was reunited with a New Jersey family after it was found about two miles away earlier this month.
Alexander escaped from a screen door and despite driving around searching and plastering posters of the missing cat around the neighborhood, he remained lost, NJ.com reported.
“We looked for him and would check every time we came across an orange cat, but it was never him,” owner Lila Wayne said.
On March 9, a family brought an orange cat into the Burlington County Animal Shelter. The cat was scared and apprehensive at first. After a few days, he started to soak up the attention and allowed a team to examine him. He was scanned for a microchip, which was traced to the Animal Welfare Association, a public pet clinic. They were then able to trace the chip to Wayne.
On Wednesday, Wayne got a call that Alexander was found.
“We are curious where he has been for two years and how he ended up two miles away,” Maya Richmond, executive director of the clinic, said in a press release. “We all hope Alexander accepts the comforts of inside life, and is given lots of snuggles and treats.”
Animal clinic officials remind owners to microchip their pets and also to keep that information updated.
