Man arrested after toddlers found wandering in Walmart parking lot, deputies say
DELTONA, Fla. – Deputies in Florida arrested a man in a Walmart parking lot after they said he was unconscious when he was supposed to be watching the children.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that deputies were called to the Walmart after a 2- and 3-year-old child were found wandering in the parking lot. The children were wearing only diapers.
A witness told police that the children had been running in the rain, wearing only diapers, and that one had almost been hit by a car. Deputies said that the witnesses were able to get the children to safety and get them clothes.
In video from a deputy’s body-worn camera, a man can be seen passed out in the driver’s seat of a car. The deputy shakes the man, identified as Dejoune Killingbeck, awake and orders him out of the car while asking, “Where are your kids at?”
Deputies told WFTV that they found a straw in Killingbeck’s pocket that contained fentanyl.
The children were reunited with their mother at Walmart, and Killingbeck was arrested for child neglect, WFTV reported.
