Could 2020 get any more odd? Garth Brooks had a press conference today (7/29/2020) to tell his fans, the country music industry, and the world, that he will be pulling his name out of the hat for a possible “CMA Entertainer of the Year” nomination. Since he came back on the country music scene in 2014, Garth Brooks has been nominated for four CMA Entertainer of the Year Awards and won three of those years (he wasn’t nominated in 2018 and Keith Urban took home the award that year).

He said to industry professionals and fans during the press conference that he is doing this to afford other artists the opportunity to be nominated and win. He revealed this all stemmed from a tweet that really got to him after he won last year’s EOTY award at the CMA’s. The tweet? Someone suggested Garth move over and finally let someone else win.

Garth expressed that tweet really stuck with him, and was a big part of this decision to make way for others to be able to feel the pride of the award.

During the press conference, a radio personality expressed this upset them, telling Garth he IS the best, and they were disappointed to hear Garth had made a decision like this.

What are your thoughts on Garth’s decision?

On a completely different note, Garth also hinted that sometime in the future, we may just see a bar on Broadway with his name on it. This was asked because of the likes of Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton, and many other country stars with their own bars/restaurants. No further details were revealed.
