WTAJ says Michael Watson, 17, was sentenced Thursday to 18 to 36 years in prison for attempted murder plus seven years of probation. Watson was charged as an adult after an expert witness said that he was a threat to public safety.

Watson pleaded guilty last November to stabbing his grandfather’s home nurse with a sword, according to WJAC.

The incident happened on April 15, 2020. The victim told police that Watson had followed her to her car where he hit her, pushed her down, and stabbed her, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by WJAC. She had cut marks to her neck and hand, as well as an almost severed finger.

According to WTAJ, the victim asked for the maximum adult sentence for Watson.

Police stated that Watson admitted to stabbing the victim and led police to the sword that was still covered in blood at the time, according to WTAJ.
