You may have seen the warnings from your Facebook friends that a new scam is making the rounds in the guise of a well-known and often-used company — FedEx.
Victims are receiving text messages claiming that there’s a delivery with the message providing a tracking code from FedEx. There’s also a link to click to set delivery preferences, ABC News reported.
But the message is fake and the link takes the recipient to a scam site disguised as an Amazon page, CNN reported.
Eventually, the scam asks for a credit card number in exchange for a free gift.
Company officials said FedEx does not send texts or emails to customers asking for any information and if a customer gets one of the questionable messages, they should report it to firstname.lastname@example.org.
