EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A 15-month-old girl was fatally mauled by a dog Thursday, police said.
Police were called around 2:45 p.m. about a domestic disturbance and found the girl bitten by a dog, the Providence Journal reported.
Officers attempted lifesaving techniques as the fire department arrived. The toddler was taken to a hospital, where she died.
Two family members were injured by the dog when they intervened and were also taken to a hospital.
The dog was injured by the family when they tried to stop the attack. The dog, a pit bull-type breed, was later euthanized by police and animal control officers.
The dog had not been involved in any previous attacks, investigators said.
