The man, who was accompanied in the vehicle by his girlfriend and the child, was ambushed in the church parking lot, and witnesses told investigators that the gunman had been lying in wait for the vicitim, hiding near a tree, KENS reported.

McManus, who said he believes the adult victim was targeted specifically by the gunman, said the suspect rushed up to the car and began firing, WAOI-TV reported.

Witnesses also told investigators that the gunman was barefoot and ran from the scene through the neighborhood, KENS reported.

“All of the violence in this city is stepping over the line, but when you do it at a church event, that’s pretty much unheard of. We are going to stop at nothing to capture this individual,” McManus told WAOI-TV.
