Alex Trebek announces Ottawa Senators’ first-round pick in NHL draft
It’s the perfect way to announce an NHL draft pick. With questions surrounding the Ottawa Senators’ first-round draft choice, the team relied on Canadian native and longtime “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek to provide the answers.
Trebek, 80, a native of Sudbury, Ontario, who attended the University of Ottawa, announced German-born left winger Tim Stutzle as the No. 3 overall pick in typical Final Jeopardy fashion.
“Our category today is the NHL, and here is the clue for you,” Trebek, who is battling pancreatic cancer, said as he introduced the Senators’ pick. “With the third pick in the 2020 NHL draft, the Ottawa Senators choose this player.
“The correct response? Who is Tim Stutzle?” Trebek said.
Ottawa also had the fifth pick in the first round, and general manager Pierre Dorion did the honors, selecting Jake Sanderson, NBC Sports reported.
Trebek was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in March 2019, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The beloved Emmy Award-winning host has moderated “Jeopardy!” since 1984.
