New music from Blake Shelton that has been getting quite a bit of heat over the last few days… the song is called ‘Minimum Wage’ and he debuted it with Carson Daily on NBC’s New Year’s Eve television special on Thursday night (Dec. 31). When he debuted the song, he also shared with Carson Daily that the music video was directed by Gwen Stafani’s brother (but the video has since been removed from the internet). Gwen’s brother also directed their ‘Happy Anywhere’ video, as well!

The song is a love song to Gwen Stafani with one of the main lyrics of the song stating “Girl, your love could make a man feel rich on minimum wage.” After he debuted the song and shared the music video, fans on Twitter didn’t hold back with their thoughts that the song was “tone-deaf to our country’s current state” and bringing attention to the fact that Blake Shelton is worth around $100 million, which is far from the minimum wage. Some of the tweets are below (BEWARE OF LANGUAGE) but many fans came to his defense as well! Below is a clip o the performance from Thursday night.
