George Strait will perform the last Sunday of the show, which will have no rodeo component.
“We’ve had a 30-year partnership with George. We’re just thrilled to death — it’s going to be a wonderful night,” said Steve Stevens, Rodeo Houston’s chairman of the board and managing partner of accounting firm Stevens & Matthews LLP.
Strait first played the rodeo in 1983 in the Astrodome and went on to play 20 more times, including the last concert in the Astrodome and the first performance in Reliant Stadium. The 2013 show will be Strait’s 21st rodeo appearance.
The Strait concert-only show will feature openers The Randy Rogers Band and Martina McBride. The addition of the show makes Rodeo Houston one day longer, running 21 days from Feb. 25 to March 17.
