Dr. Onyekachi Nwabuko is accused of battering the patient on three separate occasions at UF Health Leesburg Hospital, WFTV reported. Police told the station Nwabuko believed the woman, who was semi-conscious, was faking her condition.

In the arrest report, officers described the victim as having “significant facial injury” with swelling, redness, and bruising to her left eye. One witness told officers the doctor “was repeatedly striking the Victim in the face with her own hand. [The witness] also stated she could see that the Victim was physically resisting the Defendant’s actions but he began applying more pressure and continuing the strikes.”

The victim told police she could hear and see the doctor telling her she was faking her condition, but was unable to stop him from using her hands to hit her. She also told police “was laughing at and mocking her for faking.”

Nwabuko is now facing three counts of battery, WFTV reported.
