“It was hard but it didn’t matter,” sister-in-law Crystal Jacobo told KCBS. “It was something that had to be done. They’re family so it didn’t matter. My family went from three to eight.”

Jasmine Jacobo, a single mother, died Jan. 13 from the coronavirus, leaving her five daughters, aged 6 to 15 years old, facing the possibility of moving into a foster home.

Jasmine’s brother Fidencio Jacobo is a pipefitter and his wife was in nursing school but stopped attending classes after the girls moved in. The family started a crowd-sourced funding account to help pay for funeral costs.

“I put all my trust in God. He’s been with us, he’s blessed us and he’s seen us through so much, so we know that we have a new mission,” Jacobo said.
