CHICAGO – A Chicago woman who said she evaded security checkpoints at O’Hare International Airport and boarded a flight illegally to see rapper Jay-Z in Los Angeles was arrested Sunday, authorities said.
On Monday, Cook County prosecutors told a judge that Payton boarded an American Airlines flight for Los Angeles, the Tribune reported. The woman was seen ducking under a set of ropes at the boarding door near a ticket gate, the newspaper reported. Payton’s actions were reported to a ticket agent, according to a bail hearing Monday.
Payton was detained after she failed to produce a ticket or boarding pass.
According to the Tribune, authorities said Payton offered to show police how she avoided detection while Transportation Security Administration officers were distracted. She also told police that she was trying to go to Los Angeles to see Jay-Z, the Grammy Award-winning rapper, Assistant State’s Attorney Jocelyn Schieve told the court.
“The safety and security of all travelers are our top priority,” TSA spokesperson Sonny Lorrius wrote in an email to Cox Media Group. “The passenger was successfully screened by TSA for prohibited items before entering the secure area of the airport.”
A court-appointed defense attorney said Payton had post-traumatic stress disorder and an anxiety disorder.
Payton was released on $500 bail but was barred from the airport, the Tribune reported.
