The incident occurred at around 9:30 a.m. in Lafayette, KLFY reported. According to the video, the driver of the SUV veered into a ditch, struck a pickup truck and then drove away, the television station reported.

At that point, the passenger of the SUV can be seen jumping out of the vehicle and rolling onto the road. The man did not appear to be injured as he stood up and walked away.

Lafayette police spokesperson Sgt. Wayne Griffin said the passenger had hitched a ride from Lafayette to Opelousas for $10, KLFY reported.

According to police, the passenger said the driver of the vehicle, identified as Stoney Faulk, was driving erratically and began acting “weird.”

“He told us he asked the driver to slow down and let him out, but the driver kept going and drove off the roadway,” Griffin told KLFY. “He (the passenger) then told us that he decided to make a jump from the SUV.”

Faulk was arrested after ditching the SUV behind an apartment complex and running from police, according to KLFY.

The driver of the pickup truck, Lawrence Huckaby, was injured and treated at an area hospital, the television station reported.
