CHEBOYGAN, Mich. – A routine cleaning dive led to the unearthing of a nearly century-old message in a bottle.

Captain Jennifer Dowker of Nautical North Family Adventures was cleaning the windows of her vessel when she noticed a green bottle lying at the bottom of the Cheboygan River.

She cracked it open and found a note that read in part, “Will the person who finds this bottle return this paper to George Morrow, Cheboygan Michigan. And tell where it was found,” WPBN reported.

It also had a date — November 1926.

So she used social media to track down the family of George Morrow.

“I’ll just post it out there and see if anybody in Cheboygan knows who this guy is. Maybe we can make a connection there somehow, and you know show them this little piece of history and get it back to you know whoever wrote it,” Dowker told WPBN. “I kind of forgot about it the rest of that night because it was already pretty late. Woke up the next morning, looking at my phone and when, ‘whoa!’”

Her post had more than 85,000 shares and thousands of comments.

Eventually, Marrow’s family was found — his daughter, Michele Primeau, WWTV reported.

“It was a total shock, but knowing my dad, he would always do little things like when we were building our basement he was putting up the paneling and he put a note behind that,” Primeau told WWTV. “I know the date on the bottle was Nov. 26, and his birthday was in November. It wouldn’t surprise me if he just did that on his birthday.”

Primeau will see her father’s note in September, but she said she wants it to stay on Dowker’s boat after giving it some thought.

“I was really hoping to get it back and I was going to frame it and everything,” Primeau told WWTV. “Then when I went to bed last night I started thinking about it, and it will make my dad live on if I give it to Jen.”
