Border patrol intercepts cocaine valued at more than $2 million in Texas
LAREDO, Texas – Cocaine with an estimated street value of more than $2 million was intercepted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers on Wednesday.
The seizure, which occurred at the World Trade Bridge in Laredo, Texas, netted 104 packages of cocaine, weighing nearly 265 pounds, concealed in a 2009 Wabash trailer.
“Our frontline CBP officers in the cargo environment effectively apply inspection experience and modern technology, which led directly to this significant narcotics interception,” Acting Port Director Eugene Crawford at Laredo Port of Entry said in a news release. “Seizures like this one underscore the reality of the drug threat and our commitment to the border security mission.”
The total value of the intercepted narcotics was $2,036,940. Both the trailer and cocaine were turned over to special agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation.
