223 animals seized from Pennsylvania farm amid cruelty investigation
SUMMIT TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Authorities seized 223 dogs, cats, chickens, pigs and other animals that had been living in “inhumane” conditions at a Pennsylvania farm, state troopers said Sunday.
According to the Erie Times-News and WJET, Pennsylvania State Police said they visited the Summit Township farm Saturday after they received a video of the animals’ living conditions. Troopers spoke with the owners of the Edinboro Road property and conducted a walk-through, during which police deemed the conditions “inhumane,” authorities said in a news release. Investigators said they also discovered a burn pile with animal remains, the news outlets reported.
After obtaining a search warrant, state police launched an animal cruelty investigation, according to the reports. No one has been charged in connection with the case, WJET reported.
In a Sunday Facebook post, the ANNA Shelter in Erie provided more details about the incident.
“ALL OF THE ANIMALS are now safe with us and are receiving the necessary medical care … by our wonderful veterinarians,” the shelter wrote alongside several photos of the seized animals, which included 57 dogs.
