Country star Morgan Wallen issues apology after racial slur

Country star Morgan Wallen is apologizing after a video surfaced that this week showed him yelling a racial slur.

According to the Associated Press, the video — first published by TMZ on Tuesday night — showed him outside a home in Nashville, Tennessee shouting profanities.

In a statement to TMZ, Wallen reportedly said that he is embarrassed and sorry.

“I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better,” his statement said.

Wallen’s new record “Dangerous: The Double Album” has hit three weeks atop the Billboard 200 chart, The AP’s Kristin M. Hall reports.

This week’s incident is one of a few mistakes and stumbles that loomed over the country star’s budding success. “Wallen was arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct in May 2020 after getting kicked out of a downtown Nashville bar,” Hall adds.
