According to KBMT, Michelle Bradford, 42, was arrested on Thursday morning for felony animal cruelty after a puppy was found dead in a kennel in the sun with no water in July.

The Groves Police Department in a Facebook post said that Bradford knew that the dog was being dropped off at her house but allegedly admitted to investigators that she forgot about it and left it outside.

According to KFDM, the puppy was a five-month-old pit bull mix and it died on July 13. KFDM said that the heat index that day was about 110 degrees.

In an affidavit obtained by KBMT, a veterinarian determined that the puppy died of heat stroke.

According to KFDM, Bradford has been charged with animal cruelty of a non-livestock animal, which is a third-degree felony. If she is convicted, she could get two to 10 years in prison.

GPD said Bradford is being held on a $25,000 bond.
