ASHLAND, Va. – – A Virginia woman and her boyfriend were charged after her 2-year-old child, who was found alone in a motel room, died five days later, authorities said.

According to a news release from the Ashland Police Department, Danielle Tulloss, 21, of Fredericksburg, and Raequan Gilliens, 24, of Ashland, were arrested without incident. They were charged with child neglect and abuse, police said.

Police said they responded to a call at an Ashland motel at about 12:10 a.m. EDT on Oct. 15, WRIC-TV reported. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 2-year-old boy alone in a motel room.

Upon arriving, officers discovered a 2-year-old child alone in a motel room in “medical distress,” according to WTVR.

The child was taken to an area hospital in critical condition and died on Oct. 20, police said in its news release.

According to WTVR, Tulloss told investigators that she left the child with a friend while she went to work.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
