LOS ANGELES – South Korean film “Parasite” won big Sunday at the 2020 Academy Awards – and made history in the process.
According to The Associated Press, the comedic thriller took home the best picture Oscar, marking the first time the coveted award went to a non-English language movie. The film also won in the directing, screenplay and international film categories.
“I am ready to drink tonight,” director Bong Joon Ho quipped while accepting one award.

Producer Kwak Sin Ae added during the best picture award speech: “I feel like a very opportune moment in history is happening right now.”

According to The New York Times, “Parasite” also was the first South Korean movie to be nominated for best film.
