WATCH: An Emotional Father/Daughter ‘American Idol’ Audition
Not a dry eye in sight for this ‘American Idol’ contestant’s audition!
Ash Ruder is a now twenty-two-year-old from northern California. Her father has always been her main source of inspiration, despite their less than ideal relationship growing up. For much of her childhood, he struggled with a hard drug and liquor addiction, where he was mostly non-present. They have since re-connected upon his decision to be sober 2 years ago and music has proven to be a joining force between the two.
Ash auditions with an original song she wrote about her dad. To top the audition off, it just-so-happens to also be his birthday. He is asked by the judges to be brought into the audition room while she performs it – talk about the sweetest gift!
