According to authorities, the arrest stems from an investigation initiated against Mishra by the Auburn Police Department and members of the Alabama Internet Crimes Against Children task force, WRBL-TV reported. The investigation began on March 24, 2022; according to charging documents, Mishra on May 23 was in possession of images of a child under the age of 17 engaged in sexual acts or nudity, reported.

“We are aware of the allegations against and arrest of Amarjit Mishra,” Auburn University said in a statement. “He has been placed on administrative leave and is not on campus. Mishra will remain on leave while the University evaluates this matter.”
