Dramatic security videos show moments EF3 tornado hit two Texas schools
JACKSBORO, Texas – Dramatic security video footage shows the moments an EF3 tornado struck a Texas elementary school and high school, collapsing roofs and scattering insulation through the buildings.
The storm, which hit the northern Texas city of Jacksboro on March 21, was one of 17 that hit the area that day, NBC News reported.
School surveillance footage released by the district showed the roofs collapse inside the schools’ gymnasiums, including a clip where Jacksboro Elementary School Principal Michael Qualls ran down a hallway, barely avoiding a ceiling that was collapsing, the Star-Telegram of Fort Worth reported.
According to the National Weather Service, the roof at the city’s high school was ripped off, and the goalposts at the football field were bent.
There were no deaths, but nine people were injured, according to NBC News.
On Tuesday, the school district welcomed back Jacksboro Elementary School and Jacksboro High School students, KXAS-TV reported.
“We love what we do, and we love these kids and we’re so happy to be here,” Jacksboro Elementary teacher Becky Fudge told the television station.
