Josh Vaughn was working the door Monday at the Grand Prize Bar when other workers told him a customer was refusing to wear a mask, KTRK reported.

Vaughn approached the man as he left the restroom and was immediately struck in the head with a glass. The customer then ran out from the bar. A cell phone camera recorded his vehicle as it left.

“Before (Vaughn) could even say ‘mask’ the guy just took the glass and smashed it over his head,” Lindsay Beale, bar manager, told KTRK.

Vaughn was taken to a hospital where he received 10 stitches.

“I’ve never gotten full on blasted like this. He was quick. He was fast,” Vaughan said. “He got me good.”

The bar strictly enforces its coronavirus restrictions. Staff take the temperature of every patron and customers must wear masks unless they are eating or drinking. Employees also are tested for the coronavirus every two weeks.

Houston police are investigating the incident. They have determined a possible suspect but have not released any information on the man’s identity.

Vaughn will be back at work Thursday, enforcing the rules.

“If you’re going to go out, wear a mask. Please,” he said.
