SAN ANTONIO – A Texas man who fell asleep on train tracks lost his hand after a train ran over it early Tuesday, authorities said.

The man, from San Antonio, was injured at 7:30 a.m., KSAT reported.

According to the San Antonio Police Department, the man had been sleeping between the rails just south of downtown when the train stopped on his hand, the television station reported.

Police said the train engineer tried to stop the train but was unable to do and the man became tangled underneath it, KSAT reported. The man was not carrying identification, police said.
