The son of a former Super Bowl standout has lost his father’s championship ring. Mike Kostelnik is now offering $5,000 for the return of the family heirloom, no questions asked, Green Bay Press-Gazette reported.
Ron Kostelnik was on the Packers for eight seasons spanning 1961 through 1968. He was on the team that won five NFL championships and the first two Super Bowls, The Associated Press reported.
He wrapped up his career in 1969 with the Baltimore Colts. He was inducted into the Packers’ Hall of Fame in 1989.
The elder Kostelnik died in 1993 of a heart attack. He had left his daughter his first Super Bowl ring and his son the second Super Bowl ring, the Press-Gazette reported.
Kostelnik said he left his home last weekend and he had the ring on when he stopped at a gas station.
“When we got to Miami [Ohio], it was gone. I had taken it off my finger. When you wear that ring, it’s heavy. If your fingers are swollen in the morning, it’s a little hard to carry. So I know I put it in the console (of the car). My daughter and I just don’t know what happened to it,” Kostelnik told the newspaper.
When he discovered it was missing, he went back to the gas station, but it was nowhere to be found. He left his name and number with employees and also called the police to report it missing.
Kostelnik said the ring may have fallen and was kicked out of the vehicle.
“It’s the ring my father wore. A lot of things he went through in life after football were in that ring. It’s a ring that I wore during the times I was building my business. So, it’s all of the energy and the issues that appear that are in that ring. I felt like it gave me a lot of strength in some very trying times,” Kostelnik told the Press-Gazette.
