AVONDALE, Ariz. – One person was killed and at least five others were injured after a gunman fired at vehicles traveling on an Arizona interstate on Saturday, authorities said.

The shooting occurred on Interstate 10 in Avondale at about 1 p.m. MST, KNXV-TV reported. Police said the suspect shot at least two vehicles on the interstate, exited the highway and began shooting at more cars on Avondale Boulevard and McDowell Road, according to KTVK.

Three people suffered gunshot wounds and one person died, KPNX-TV reported. The other two persons wounded were in critical condition, according to the television station. Two others suffered minor injuries when their vehicles crashed, police said.

After shooting at the vehicles in Avondale, police said the suspect then drove toward Encanto and crashed into a motorcyclist, according to KTVK. The person on the motorcycle was taken to an area hospital and was in critical but stable condition.

The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by police, KPNX reported.
