ITHACA, N.Y. – Police in New York arrested a man accused of attacking his roommate with a hammer after an argument.
Ithaca police told WSTM that they were called to a home early Monday morning for a report of a dispute. The victim told police he was attacked by his roommate following a fight.
Edward Sumeriski was allegedly playing music loudly, prompting his roommate to ask him to turn it down, police told Syracuse.com. When the victim confronted Sumeriski about the volume, the pair began to fight.
“While fighting, the suspect struck the victim in the head with a hammer,” Ithaca police Sgt. Michael Meskill told Syracuse.com.
The victim was able to get away and locked himself in his room. While he was calling police, the victim said Sumeriski used the hammer to damage the victim’s door, WSTM reported.
Sumeriski was charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal mischief, Syracuse.com reported. Sumeriski was taken to the Tompkins County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
