GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – An employee of the United States Postal Service survived a crash that left her truck a mangled mess on a Michigan road.
Michigan State Police shared photos of the crash on Twitter, which show the USPS truck in pieces and nearly unrecognizable. Troopers said the crash, which involved a semitruck, is under investigation.
“You just see the photos, you would think that the person did not make it,” Paige Jones, the daughter of the USPS employee driving the truck, told WXMI. “She thankfully has no brain damage; she doesn’t have any teeth missing.”
Jones’ mother, Dora Schweiger, was driving on her route along Highway M-57 when her truck hit a semitruck head-on, WXMI reported.
State police said Schweiger was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
“She has broken basically both arms, both wrists, her pelvis bone, her tailbone, both legs, both feet and she has a broken ribcage,” Kendra Jones, Schweiger’s daughter, told WXMI. “Her spine’s intact; she’s not paralyzed; she can wiggle her toes and fingers.”
Kendra and Paige told WXMI that their mother had surgery on Christmas and is recovering, but they do not know whether she will be able to walk again or how extensive her physical therapy needs will be.
The family has created a GoFundMe to raise money and said that Schweiger’s clothing and belongings were lost in the crash.
