Baby delivered after pregnant woman fatally shot in Alabama
SCOTTSBORO, Ala. – An Alabama woman who was eight months pregnant was fatally shot, but medical personnel delivered her baby, authorities said.
According to police in Scottsboro, the case is being investigated as a murder-suicide, WHNT reported. Police were called after a report of a suspicious vehicle on a roadway at about 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, the television station reported.
Two people were found fatally shot inside the vehicle: Amber Michelle Coffman, 35, and Owen Deanglo Williamson, 33. Both were from Hollywood, Alabama, WAFF reported.
Emergency responders transported Coffman to an area hospital in an effort to rescue the unborn child, WHNT reported. The child was born and then rushed to a hospital in Huntsville for further care, the television station reported.
The motive for the double fatality is unknown, and the investigation is ongoing, authorities told WAAY.
