Suspect chews off part of victim’s face in gruesome attack on train platform
GRESHAM, Ore. – Police have arrested a suspect accused of violently attacking an elderly man on a train platform.
Gresham Police told KGW that the 78-year-old victim and the suspect had been involved in an altercation on a MAX station platform and that officers had been called by dispatchers to a possible stabbing.
Officers who arrived at the scene reported seeing a lot of blood, and said they had to pull the attacker off the victim, KPTV reported.
In the police report, obtained by KPTV, officers said the suspect “had chewed off the victim’s ear and part of his face. The injury was so severe that responders could see the victim’s skull.”
The suspect gave police a fake name when he was arrested, but officers said he was identified with fingerprints as Koryn Kraemer, The Oregonian reported. Kraemer had recently moved to Portland from Georgia, and will likely face second-degree assault charges, police said.
“Investigators are looking into whether drugs played a factor in the suspect’s actions, but we’re not sure at this time,” Jarom Sweazey with Gresham police told KGW. Sweazey could not confirm any details about what may have led up to the attack.
The victim was taken to a hospital and was last reported to be in stable condition, according to KGW.
