In a news release, the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office said that Shawn Jackson was reported missing by his live-in girlfriend and son on July 31, 2019, from their home in Jonesboro, Georgia.

Investigators learned that Jackson reportedly had an affair and his live-in girlfriend, Newoker Hurt, found out, according to WSB-TV.

On the day that Jackson was reported missing, it was learned that Hurt had confronted Jackson outside the house of his mistress, went back home, and fought more that evening, the news outlet reported.

The son told investigators at the time that both Jackson and Hurt had stopped fighting and went to bed but in the morning Hurt had reportedly told him that Jackson left during the night, according to WSB-TV.

On Aug. 19, 2019, the remains of an unidentified man were found in Jefferson County, Alabama, in a shallow grave, the sheriff’s office said. The body was eventually identified as Jackson through fingerprints, clothing, and tattoos.

Clayton County police believe that Hurt had shot Jackson three times in the head while he was asleep, the sheriff’s office said. Hurt then called her brother, Shrron Stephan Hurt, to help her get rid of the body.

Hurt was arrested on Thursday and charged with malice murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, tampering with evidence, and concealing the death of another person. The sheriff’s office said that Hurt’s brother also received the same charges. Shrron Stephan Hurt is in federal prison in West Virginia on unrelated charges.
