Princess Lilibet Diana was born in June 2021 and was just christened Friday, BBC News reported.
A spokesperson said the ceremony was held in Los Angeles.
“I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3 by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor,” the spokesperson told People magazine.
The announcement of the ceremony was the first time Lilibet had been publically referred to as a princess, BBC News reported. She was not a princess when she was born but the title came when her grandfather, King Charles III ascended to the throne upon the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II last September. Archie received the title of prince, the Evening Standard reported. While they don’t plan to use the titles daily, Harry and Meghan may use them in formal events, BBC News reported.
Archie and Lilibet can also decide whether or not to use their titles when they’re older, according to the Evening Standard.
Buckingham Palace said that Lilibet’s title will be updated on the royal website “in due course,” BBC News reported. Both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are listed on the Royal Family page of the website despite stepping down as senior royals and moving to California.
Several media outlets reported that King Charles, Queen Consort Camilla, Prince William and his wife Kate were invited, but did not attend.
Buckingham Palace confirmed that there had been talks surrounding the christening, BBC News reported.
There were only 20 to 30 people at the ceremony including Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland; Lilibet’s godfather, Tyler Perry; and Lilibet’s godmother who was not identified, according to People magazine.
A 10-person gospel choir that came with Perry from Atlanta and sang “Oh Happy Day” and “This Little Light of Mine,” People magazine reported.
There may be another chance for Harry and Meghan to see the royal family at the coronation of the prince’s father.
Controversial Koh-i-Noor diamond will not be used in King Charles’ coronation
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex “recently received email correspondence from His Majesty’s office regarding the coronation. An immediate decision on whether the Duke and Duchess will attend will not be disclosed by us at this time,” The Washington Post reported.
Harry, Meghan asked to vacate Frogmore Cottage in UK
Questions about their attendance arose after the scathing allegations Harry made in his memoir “Spare” about the relationship between the couple and the rest of the royals.
Harry has said in the past he would like to repair the relationships between himself and his father and brother, the Post reported.
