Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said that deputies found a man bleeding from his hand at a Mobil Gas Station located on Canada Road around 9 a.m. on Friday, according to WHBQ.

The man told police that he was saying with a woman in a room at the Relax Inn when someone began pounding at the door just 15 minutes prior, according to WHBQ. The person who knocked at the door was identified as Daniel Adkins, 19.

Deputies said, according to WHBQ, that the woman reportedly knew Adkins. When she opened the door, Adkins allegedly pushed her to the ground. The woman ran off. Adkins allegedly was swinging a scythe at the man’s head. A scythe is a tool typically used to cut grass or other farm materials.

The man was able to defend himself by putting his arms up but SCSO said he suffered multiple injuries to his hands, according to WHBQ. He was eventually able to escape and made his way to the Mobil Gas Station on Canada Road. He was eventually taken to the hospital for treatment.

Adkins ran away from the motel but was later located at a Shell Gas Station in the area on Canada Road, SCSO said, according to WHBQ. Adkins walked into the gas station bathroom, ditched the scythe, and walked back out before he was arrested. A deputy located the scythe.

WHBQ reported Adkins had previous run-ins with them and that the motel already had a “no-trespassing order” against him.

Adkins has been charged with aggravated assault and aggravated criminal trespassing, according to jail records.
