Houston — Houston attorney Tony Buzbee announced Monday he’ll be representing several local restaurants in a planned class-action lawsuit against CenterPoint Energy, according to KHOU11.

The planned lawsuit claims alleged “negligence” by CenterPoint Energy resulted in these restaurants keeping their doors closed due to the lack of power in the wake of Hurricane Beryl. The suit will also allege the energy company has failed at maintaining the infrastructure during other events leading to outages, and was not adequately prepared for Beryl once it hit.

The restaurants joining the suit lost power during Beryl, and remained without power for days afterward. Buzbee claims around 50 restaurants in the Houston and Galveston area will be joining the suit, in an effort to force CenterPoint Energy to go to court and make changes going forward.

According to KHOU 11, Buzbee expects other groups to file lawsuits in the future against the energy company.
