Labor Day weekend is fast approaching, and if you’re looking for things to do during it, here’s a list of some free, cheap and fun events and activities to check out:

Friday, August 30th

Houston Restaurant Week

When: 8 a.m. – 10 p.m.

Where: Multiple locations

Details: “Pix fixe” meals: Brunch and lunch for $25 – Dinner for $39 or $55

Explore new Houston restaurants or old favorites at fixed prices across the greater Houston area! Nearly 400 options for brunch, lunch and dinner!

Houston Craft Beer Month

Details: $25 packages and bundles

Sample some of what Houston’s craft beer culture has to offer with a variety of $25 packages and bundles that go to help support the Houston Food Bank. The bundles include a mix of exclusive beer tastings, pairing sessions, flights, limited edition brew releases and various activities.

The Happening XXI

When: 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Labor Day Night Run 5K/10K Houston

Run with a small, private group through a nice route in Eleanor Tinsley Park!

Transcending Borders: The Ramayana Project

Partake in the classic epic of the Ramayana at the Miller Outdoor Theater Friday. Watch the tale of Prince Rama, a story full of lover, war and adventure, in a new and original style with music and the dance traditions of South and Southeast Asia.

Saturday, August 31st

20th Annual Beneeezy Purple Monkey Fun Run

When: 7:30 a.m.

Where: Alvin Memorial Stadium, 1300 W Dumble St, Alvin, TX 77511

Details: Entry is between $25 to $40

Join the 20th Annual Beneeezy Purple Monkey Fun Run, with options of running a 1K, 5K or 10K to help raise funds for the Ben Garcia Memorial fund.

Magic, Music and Mayhem

When: 4 p.m.

Head to the Four Seasons Hotel for an evening of music and magic, as Ben Jackson’s one-man show will dazzle you with his piano playing and magic tricks that mess with the mind.

Early Labor Day

Salsa Night

Salsa dance without the Houston heat in the AC of the Houston Botanic Garden’s Global Collection Tent! There will be a live salsa set from DJ DelSur and salsa dancing lessons from Angel Ramirez.

Blues, Brews, and BBQ: H-Town Players

When: 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

The Zydeco Dots will be bringing the blues, while Williams Smokehouse BBQ & Blues will supply the brews and barbecue. Stop by Sugar Land Town square for energetic blues music, Creole Candy Wings, ice cold beers and signature Muddy Waters cocktails.

Head down to Galveston Island to catch the firework show along Seawall Boulevard!

Sunday, September 1st

Blackwood Skyfarmer’s Market

When: 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Where:  POST Houston, 401 Franklin St, Houston, TX 77201

Details: Free to attend

Shop and try from a selection of local and nutritious food at the Blackwood Skyfarmer’s Market! The rooftop Outpost will be open, featuring local sustainable living displays.

Labor Day Drone Show

When: 7:30 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Where: Saengerfest Park, 2302 The Strand #000, Galveston, TX 77550

Details: Free to attend

Drones will take flight above Shearn-Moody Plaza at 8:30 p.m. There will be plenty of pre-show entertainment, so make sure to find a spot early!
