Last month Carly Pearce had a heckler removed following a verbal altercation during her show. While the show went on without the rude guest, Pearce’s mother thinks she could have handled it differently.
While Pearce was performing at WE Fest is Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, the heckler shouted “No one cares” in response to Pearce talking about her life. The 34-year-old singer become agitated, calling for security to have him removed before berating the man further as he was escorted out:
“Get out of my show,” Pearce said to the heckler. “If you’re gonna be an a******, you’re gonna have to say it to me and get the f*** out of my show. I do not have time for d****. See you later!”
Pearce’s ousting of the rude fan was met with cheers and applause from much of the crowd. She had been performing as part of Tim McGraw‘s “Standing Room Only Tour ’24.”

Pearce apologized to her father, Todd Slusser, who was in attendance, after the heckler was removed:
“My dad is right here, and I think he’s gonna have a heart attack,” she said. “I’m sorry Daddy, but if you’re an a******, you have to leave.”
Pearce’s mother, Jackie Slusser, did not approve of the way her daughter handled the situation. According to Pearce, in a Fox News interview, some people said she could’ve “used a different word” when dealing with the heckler; her mom agreed.
“She was like, ‘You didn’t have to say that word.’ And I was like, ‘I understand,’” Pearce said.

However, Pearce would go on to say that she believes people should stick up for themselves in situations like hers, and that like everyone else, musicians and performers have feelings too.
“But at the end of the day, we’re artists, and we’re putting our heart and souls out every night,” Pearce said. “And there have been so many different things that I have not spoken up about.”
Pearce also highlighted a perceived double standard for women in country music and the backlash they face for handling interruptions during shows versus their male peers:
“I think as a female in country music — I’ve talked to a few of my other female friends in the industry, and it’s like, ‘The boys do it, and it’s cool’, but if I do it, it’s like, ‘She’s being disrespectful,'” Pearce said.
Pearce claims it was the first time she has personally kicked someone out of one of her shows, and hasn’t had another incident since.
Pearce will be heading to Houston at the House of Blues on April 17, 2025, as part of her “Hummingbird World Tour.”
