Houston’s wet week now has weather authorities concerned, as dense fog, strong thunderstorms and possible flooding are anticipated to arrive on Thursday (Jan 30). As much as six inches of rain may touch down along the coast, and up to four inches of rain may land up to Interstate 10.

“It should be emphasized that should the axis of heaviest rain set up just slightly further north, it would put the Houston metro area in a more impactful situation,” according to a statement issued by the National Weather Service earlier today.

The worst part of Thursday’s expected storms are likely to arrive in the afternoon or late evening. According to Click2Houston, the flood watch is in effect through Friday morning. The rain is coming from low pressure in the Gulf. If this low travels north, rain amounts will be higher in Houston.

H-Town residents are no stranger to the effects of heavy, consistent rain. As always, one of the best ways to stay safe when dealing with flooding is move to higher ground immediately to avoid rising water, never attempt to walk, swim, or drive through floodwater, and stay informed about emergency updates from local authorities; if instructed, evacuate your home and take essential items with you.
