The deal with Warner Records is for at least two albums, which was struck on Sunday, according to Variety. Previously, Bryan intended to record one final major-label album, which he announced on Jan. 15 via an audio message from actor Matthew McConaughey that was posted to Instagram. The message talked about Motorbreath, a film documenting the process of recording his final album with his friends for Warner Records.
“This is not a film about a band,” McConaughey said in the audio message. “This is a film about a boy from Oklahoma, a boy who joined the Navy with a love of writing. That writing connected with people — a lot of people. This film is about a group of best friends taking a two-week motorcycle ride across America while recording one final major label album. Oh, and the title of the film, you ask? Motorbreath.”
The reported buyer of Bryan’s music catalog, led by former Warner Bros. Records and Warner Chappell Music CEO Cameron Strang, is a new company called the Merrit Group. Currently, there are no specifics on what his catalog sold for.
Bryan has been one of Warner Records biggest stars over the last few years, beginning with his commercial breakthrough in 2022 with his record, American Heartbreak. Bryan got his start by recording and releasing two albums independently while still in the Navy, for which he was honorably discharged in 2021.
