The Weekend Rodeo Recap (July 11-13)
Welcome to the “Weekend Rodeo Recap!” were I recap everything that happened in Houston, the country world and so much more!
Friday July 11
Kick the weekend off right with some live music at White Oak Music Hall. New viral sensation, Kaitlin Butts opened up for her husband’s band Flatland Calvary. We are currently playing her hit song “You Ain’t Gotta Die (to Be Dead to Me)” and hearing it live was 100% worth it. Being born and raised in Texas, Flatland is a MUST to any playlist and I definitely could not pass up the opportunity to listen to them live in my home town.
Saturday July 12
Mattel has launched the world’s first UNO Social Club at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. This immersive venue includes themed rooms, custom UNO game tables, an UNO‑themed bowling alley, and exclusive game variants like UNO Golf, UNO Teams, and UNO Show’em No Mercy. At launch, visitors could enter a contest to win a three‑day stay in the vibrant suite, now open for public booking. Designed to blend nostalgic gameplay with social nightlife, the concept focuses on fun—not gambling—and includes tournaments and signature cocktails. It’s slated to expand with pop‑ups and clubs in other major U.S. cities. So much for beating the house with my own house rules and becoming rich. They really UNO REVERSE card that situation.
Superman hit theatres over the weekend and I am having some super mixed feelings on the movie. I am liking the new direction that DC universe is taking going forward with this version of their comic book properties but I feel like the comic book movie craze has came and went up, up an away now. With Marvel setting the tone for the comic movie standards and how hard to keep up with continuity with each properties, comic book movies feel they have over stayed their welcome. It is still a fun movie to take your kids, and family to if you are looking for a reason to go to the movies!
Sunday July 13
7-1-3 DAY. The infamous area code and date here in Houston and what a better way to celebrate it then with my radio family. Here at 93Q we have sister station, (97.9 The Box, Majic 102.1 and Houston Only Classic Rock radio station The eagle 106.9 & 107.5) all of us from all departments and time slots hosted our “Operation Hydration” which was dedicated to those impacted by the flood disaster in the Texas Hill Country and we where at Kroger Marketplace in Katy (2700 W Grand Parkway N). We received over 42,000 pounds of donations! I have been a Houstonian my whole life and moments like these are the ones I cherish the most. Being with my radio family, creating a difference and making an impact for those in need is one of the big reason I picked radio. None of this is possible without our fellow listeners and Houstonians. From the bottom of our hearts, God Bless y’all and God Bless Texas.
