A late-night stop at Whataburger turned into a full-blown kitchen showdown in Paris, Texas.

Police say a 41-year-old man was arrested after drunkenly entering the restaurant, becoming verbally abusive toward staff, and later returning to assault the manager.

According to an incident report, officers were first called to the Whataburger on Sunday, Feb. 22, after a man entered the restaurant and began causing a disturbance. He was asked to leave.

Before exiting, the man allegedly threatened to return and assault the manager once police left the scene.

Authorities say he made good on that threat.

The suspect allegedly returned and struck the manager multiple times with his fist.

That’s when the situation escalated — and quickly.

In a now-viral video captured by a customer inside the restaurant, a Whataburger employee can be seen repeatedly striking the suspect with a trash can. Another employee attempted to fend him off by hitting him with a deep-fryer basket.

Police later identified the suspect as Anthony William Newhuis, 41.

Officers located Newhuis in the restaurant’s parking lot, where he was reportedly bleeding from the head.

He was arrested and charged with assault resulting in bodily injury.

According to the Paris Police Department incident report, Newhuis was also charged with criminal mischief after allegedly intentionally flooding cells at the Lamar County Jail.

Jail records show he was released the following day after posting a $2,000 surety bond for the criminal mischief charge and a $2,500 bond for the assault charge. A court date has not yet been set.
