Dingus Dad Accused of Building Pipe Bomb for “Entertainment”
Today’s dingus comes from the commonwealth of PA, so you can sit this one out, Florida.
A Pennsylvania father is facing multiple charges after state police say he built a homemade pipe bomb to entertain guests — and accidentally detonated it himself.
According to court documents, 51-year-old Travis Peachey of Narvon, Pennsylvania, was arrested Saturday after a pipe bomb exploded outside his home on Jacob Road in Salisbury Township, Lancaster County.
Pipe Bomb Built for Guests, Police Say.
Pennsylvania State Police began investigating after Peachey arrived at a hospital with injuries caused by a bomb explosion.
According to troopers, Peachey told investigators that he had assembled the device because they were expecting guests and he believed it would make for good entertainment.
Police said he constructed the explosive using a PVC pipe filled with six ounces of black powder. He also reportedly said he was using a motorcycle switch to control the detonation.
Explosion Happened While He Tried to Disarm It
State police say Peachey initially placed the bomb on a pile of wood outside a shed in his backyard.
After learning that the guests were no longer coming, investigators say he retrieved the device and brought it back into the shed.
According to charging documents, Peachey was attempting to disarm the explosive when he accidentally dropped it — causing it to detonate.
Here’s what it may have looked like, based on an artificial artist’s rendering…(I also love how the artist took it literally and put a “pipe bomb” on the ground…see it?)

Injuries and Damage
Peachey’s wife told troopers she was inside the home with two children when she heard an explosion. Shortly afterward, Peachey came into the house and said he needed to go to the hospital.
Police said Peachey suffered injuries to his face and eye, and hospital staff removed a piece of shrapnel from his head.
Troopers later searched the shed and found a hole in the floor where the explosion occurred.
Charges Filed
As a result of the investigation, Peachey was charged with:
- Two counts of endangering the welfare of children
- Risking catastrophe
- Possession of an explosive
- Three counts of attempted aggravated assault
- Three counts of recklessly endangering another person
